Dervla Tomlin was appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer at Great-West Lifeco in February 2023. In this role, Dervla leads all aspects of risk management across the organization. Additionally, she has responsibility for Great-West Lifeco’s Actuarial function, with the Appointed Actuary reporting to her.
Dervla has over 30 years’ experience in the industry. She joined the Great-West Lifeco team in 2013 as part of the acquisition of Irish Life. She was appointed Chief Actuary, Great-West Lifeco in April 2015, having previously served as the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary for Irish Life. In addition to corporate actuarial and risk experience, Dervla has extensive operational experience, including pricing and product development, marketing, customer service and leading a successful strategic business transformation.
Dervla has a degree in mathematics and economics from University College Dublin. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and the UK Institute of Actuaries and holds the Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary designation. She is also an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Throughout her career, she has been an active member of professional and industry bodies. She is a Past President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.
