Matt Royal was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for Unum Group in July 2015. In this capacity, Matt is responsible for Unum’s enterprise risk management, risk quantification, and business resiliency programs for its global platform.
Mr. Royal joined Unum in 2013 as vice president and chief auditor of Unum Group from KPMG LLP, where he most recently served as a director in the firm’s Insurance Risk Advisory practice. His two decades of experience in the industry includes service to a wide range of corporations, insurance companies, governmental entities, brokers and third-party administrators. His work spans finance and accounting, enterprise risk management, corporate governance and process effectiveness and efficiency.
Mr. Royal earned a Masters of Business Administration, with distinction, in Finance and Accounting from the Stern School of business at New York University. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree Magna cum Laude in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Royal is a member of the board of directors for the United Way of Greater Chattanooga. He resides in Chattanooga with his wife, Barbara, and two daughters.
