Unum

Mary Wagnon is Chief Risk Officer of Unum, with more than 25 years of experience in financial and actuarial roles and joined the company in 2000, as an actuarial student on the valuation team. She then worked in actuarial Director roles, followed by AVP roles in analysis and pricing.

 

In her most recent role as VP, Financial Lead for Voluntary Business, she combined the Colonial Life and Unum US Voluntary Benefits into one P&L team. She also helped in modernizing the approach to financial analysis through long duration target improvements (LDTI) implementation, which continues to change accounting requirements for the insurance industry.

 

Mary plays an active role in both strategy and operations, providing leadership, direction and oversight to the Board of Directors, the CEO, CFO and Senior Management concerning Enterprise Risk Management. She will establish and manage the corporate risk philosophy and appetite, and ensure our company culture maintains risk awareness while aligning to our company’s purpose, values and business strategies.

 

Mary earned her Bachelor of Science in Intensive Mathematics, with a minor in Statistics from the University of South Carolina. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. As an advocate for others, Mary serves on the board of directors for the Women’s Fund of Greater Chattanooga and has made significant contributions as a mentor and co-lead in the Actuarial Development Program at Unum.
